A study from the University of Manchester shows that 68% of women have experienced some form of abusive behavior while out running. Doing personal surveys of female runners revealed something similar, that women face unpredictable and potentially life-threatening hazards when running outdoors in urban areas. After conducting user-research through surveys, creating user personas, as well as iterating and testing various design solutions, Valkyrie was made to address those problems by equipping runners with the proper safety tools users call for. Features include an emergency SOS button to alert friends and the authorites of sudden danger plus a map to anonymously view and report local hazards to other runners.
